Looking Up
2023. Watercolor, Ink, & Graphite on Illustration Board. 16 by 20 inches.
When visiting big cities, I am one of those nerdy hick tourists. I continually look up while walking, endangering others and myself. However, the soaring architecture fascinates me. This building façade in mid-town Manhattan is typical for its environment, and I believe it’s underappreciated by the locals. For me, especially with its ornate window dressings, fire escapes, and shadows, this building is simply gorgeous. I painted it to satisfy something in my soul. Then, Emily’s Hope in Sioux Falls asked me to donate an artwork for its annual fundraiser auction. I’m happy that this piece would help a wonderful cause. Ashley and Keith Thompson purchased it at the auction.
