Phillips Avenue between 11th and 12th
Circa 1983. Watercolor on Paper. 9 by 12 inches.
I don’t remember the exact year I painted this view of Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls. Old timers like me might help me out. When I painted it, the Shriver’s building had already closed, and the windows were boarded and painted in pastel colors. The Hanson building located just north of the theater had not yet burned -- I think that happened in 1989? According to the Argus Leader, Donahue’s Furniture closed in 1995. Car aficionados might be able to identify car vintages. I can’t read the marquee (that would be a major clue if I could). I donated this painting to the Civic Fine Arts Center annual art auction. Davenport Evans purchased the piece.
