Needles
Each year, I have donated a work of art to the Washington Pavilion for their Gala, a dinner and auction to raise funds for Pavilion programs. Before the Pavilion was established in 1999, and starting in about 1982, I annually donated a work of art to the Sioux Falls Civic Fine Arts Center for auction at its “Arts Night” fundraiser. In 2018, I donated to the Pavilion this painting of “the Needles” in the Black Hills. I am intrigued by the juxtaposition of: A) the folds of super hard granite that looks soft due to erosion over millions of years, and B) the flowing and swaying ponderosa pines that seem to mirror the granite. I do not remember who won the bid.
