Our Lt. Governor's wife, Sara Venhuisen, commissioned me to create art for her husband, Tony, for his birthday. Tony was free to select the art subject and medium. He asked me to propose ideas involving interior views of our beautiful SD State Capitol. My wife and I drove to Pierre on a super windy day in February. Tony and his son, Henry, met us in the Capitol and gave us a tour. I took over 60 pics. A few days later, I sent 10 of my favorite pics to Tony and Sara. I asked them to consider several individual views, as well as combinations of three -- a triptych! They chose this triptych and requested watercolor as the medium. This fun project took about 90 hours (not counting the trip to Pierre!). Prints are available from Piper Arts in Sioux Falls.
